Featured Presentation:

Flash storage 101 and how it modernizes database design

Matt Henderson

NAND flash storage is the new wave of technology hitting datacenters and solutions design. With a new technology comes a new set of pros versus cons, new economics and changes in solutions architecture that highlight what it has to offer. This session will give an overview of how the technology works, what to look out for, how to properly POC/test each vendor’s solution and how to modernize your database architecture with this new technology.

About Matt:
For over 15 years Matt Henderson has been a database and systems architect specializing in SQL Server and Sybase platforms. He has extensive experience in high volume transactional systems, large data warehouses and user applications in the telecommunications and insurance industries. More recently Matt has become a flash technology advocate and concentrates on educating database architects on the future of solutions design.

Introduction to MDX

Ron Davis

Ron will cover a unique explanation of multidimensional space, relate that to key terms such as attributes, dimensions, measures, fact tables, measure groups and user hierarchies. We will then decompose the MDX basic statement discuss why MDX is NOT T-SQL and get you going on a methodology of spinning out your own MDX. Ron is convinced that if you clearly understand multidimensional space and the terms you are now crawling in MDX, then some work with the query editor, relating the results back to multidimensional space and you will be walking then running then saying “who was that old bald guy anyway?” Ron also cautions that if high energy presentations liberally sprinkled with humor are not your thing then this presentation is not for you.

About Ron:
Ron (NorSivad) Davis has over 40 years in technology, (yes he is that old!) and has held positions from Customer Engineer, now called technician, through senior manager at a large US Corporation. He has owned and operated several businesses over the years and has concentrated on Business Intelligence for over ten years. He has written over 15 courses for Microsoft Community Courseware that are distributed and delivered worldwide by Microsoft Learning Partners. Ron lives and works in Plano TX where he continues to write courses and does occasional consulting projects which, for some reason, seem to frequently be in New York City. Ron is currently migrating selective topics as video training on Amazon (shameless self-promotion!) Ron is the Publisher at BlueBuffaloPress.
